FRED Properties

Using the FRED Dataset for Our Macroeconomic Data

In order to be useful for stock screening, all FRED datasets, by default, use the date published rather then the time period covered.

For example:
If, on April 15, the Fed announced that the GDP grew 5% in March, Equities Lab would only show that 5% rise on April 15.

Use Fred_Retro to get the data about the time period that would only be available retrospectively; HOWEVER, you cannot use Fred_Retro in a stock screener unless you are a time traveler and can get the data before it’s actually reported.

Here is a spreadsheet of Fred Properties. You can also search the ALFRED site directly. When you find a property you want to use within Equities Lab, simply copy the properties URL and paste it directly into the Equities Lab Editor.
